Two disciples walked on a long road with plenty of time to ponder the incredible events of their week. But, who on earth is this stranger who seems not to have heard what everyone else is talking about? The stage is set for one more surprise.
Even before Jesus revealed himself to the disciples, they revealed Jesus within them to him.

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Having said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:44-46
Jesus has been faithful unto death. What more is there to say? And yet, in the midst of his final breaths, our Lord manages to forgive.
The whole of creation grieved when Jesus died.
